OUR “LITTLE CRICKET”

Little Cricket Charity was established in memory of Sarah Lauren Harmening, the Harmening family’s “little cricket.”

Sarah was an avid reader of classic literature. The third of four daughters, she particularly loved the book Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. She identified with one of the main characters, Beth, who was also the third of four daughters and tragically died at a young age. One of Sarah’s favorite quotes about Beth aptly describes the sorrowful impact of Sarah’s sudden absence in the lives of her family members:

“There are many Beths in the world, shy and quiet, sitting in corners till needed, and living for others so cheerfully that no one sees the sacrifices till the little cricket on the hearth stops chirping, and the sweet, sunshiny presence vanishes, leaving silence and shadow behind.”
—Louisa May Alcott

OUR VISION

The vision of Little Cricket Charity is to glorify God by pointing others to the hope available in Jesus Christ through creating and providing opportunities and resources to comfort hurting people with His comfort—speaking His hope into the “silence and shadow” of suffering.

“Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NASB95

OUR TWO-PRONGED MISSION

Our two-pronged mission is to provide Christ-centered, biblically sound, hope-filled resources and support for grieving individuals, and to build strong communities of care by proactively educating the public about loss and grief from a Christian perspective and equipping them with meaningful support resources.
